About

Seventh Hell are a heavy metal band from the North East of England.  We are situated in and around Barnard Castle.

We formed  in July of 2001, after the split of Placid.  Placid formed in October 2000, and consisted of Mark Jones - Lead/Rhythm Guitars, Peter Atkinson - Drums, Gavin Jones - Bass and James Freeman - Vocals.  After recording our first song, Possessive Minds, we saw the departure of Gavin, due to constant conflict with the rest of the band.

Early 2001 saw the introduction of new band member Dean Jackson on Bass.  This line up was to remain the same until June/July of 2001.  Mark and Peter just weren't getting on as musicians, this saw the departure of Peter from the band.

Because Peter came up with the name Placid, he kept it for his band, which includes the original Placid bassist Gavin Jones.

The creative force behind most of Placid's music, Mark, wanted to continue his musical directions, so Seventh Hell was born, consisting of basically the old Placid line up, Mark on Lead/Rhythm guitars, Dean Jackson on Bass and the introduction of James Freeman on Drums.  James quit being vocalist of Placid, but continued to help out as Drum technician up until the original Placid split, and he jumped at the chance to be drummer.

Towards the end of 2001, Dean's future with the band was looking very dim.  He no longer wanted to play bass, but instead to focus on his main instrument, the drums.  So he decided enough was enough, but wished the band luck for the future.

Early 2002 saw light, as Seventh Hell started in search for a new bassist.  Some guy named Paul was mentioned about a lot, so we asked if he would come down, and do some session bass work.  We really liked his attitude towards the music, and he is also a great bassist.  When we asked if he would like to join, he adamantly accepted.

Later on in 2002 we started looking for a singer, and we asked Thomas Breedon (Guitarist for Black Market) if he would kindly fill in for a while.  Breedon will always have a place in Seventh Hell being our lyricist, but we have yet to decide his long term future with the band as singer.  He does not mind our indecisive attitude towards him, as we understand he has a greater role to play in Black Market.

Unfortunately due to the lack of high expectations that Mark required from Jam, this led to his departure.  We had no problem replacing him, as drummer Dean Jackson had a desire to play ever from the start.  Rumors were flying for a while circling the split of Black Market and the departure of James.  Now we had a tight rhythm and lead section, all we required was a vocalist.  Breedon's time with the band was over, but he always knew that he was never a fixed member.

The ex Black Market vocalist, Carly Simpson was asked to join by the band, she heard our demo songs and accepted. It looked as if the band were complete, but we spoke too soon. The day before the Stanley gig on the 9th August, she quit.  We all were very annoyed, but are all still friends.  It just wasn't her style. She loved the music, it's just she wanted to be in a more gothic and heavier band.

Early 2003 saw the introduction of new vocalist, Mike "Viking" Freeman, the band now can only move forwards with such a strong line up of talent and stage presence/personality.  With full time vocalist, the long awaited demo was completed for yet another great TCR Big Live Gig.  For Seventh Hell, that was the second ever headline show that was put on, and all that can be said was amazing!
